*** MAKE 3.5in INSTALL DISKS FROM 1.2mb DISKS FOR DR DOS 6 ***
To make **720KB** 3.5" disks from 1.2MB 5.25" disks when drive A:
is 3.5" and drive B: is 5.25", high density, to install DR DOS 6.0 -
1) Format 4 - 3.5 in. disks. Use the DR DOS format command from
the Install disk in drive B: Log onto B: (B: <enter>.) and:
(FORMAT A: <enter>) Format all in turn.
2) Insert the install 1.2 disk in B: and the 1st 3.5 disk in A:,
then log onto B: (B: <enter>).
3) At the B:> prompt, type: XCOPY B:IBM*.COM A: /H <enter>
This copies the boot files (/H=system hidden files). You can NOT use
the MS/PC DOS xcopy command. The boot files are IBMBIO.COM &
IBMDOS.COM.
4) Copy each of the disks in turn as listed below. You could make an
easier job of it by moving XCOPY.EXE from the INSTALL disk to your
hard disk and rename it to DRCOPY so there is no confusion
with another version. (COPY B:XCOPY.EXE C:\DRCOPY.EXE <enter>)
THEN, use DRCOPY B:*.* A: /S/P <enter>. The /S switch copies files
from any subdirectories, and the /P switch prompts you on each file
to copy - save a lot of typing file names.
5) You MUST then label each 3.5 disk as listed on the file list below.
(LABEL A: <enter> and follow directions).
The new STARTUP (INSTALL) disk is then bootable and you should be able
to boot and install OK now.
Note: If your current hard disk CONFIG.SYS file has the line:
DEVICE=DMDRVR.BIN
or similar disk device driver, you MUST insert this line in the
CONFIG.SYS file (first line) on the STARTUP (INSTALL) disk so
that DR DOS can properly access your hard disk.
